Tallow Specialty Artisan Soap
Tallow Specialty Artisan Soap
Proudly made using exclusively Kitchen Table Cultures' tallow, local to me!
Introducing the second soap of the sustainable living recipe collection! Tallow soaps are one of the oldest forms of soapmaking. Usually not part of my repertoire, tallow soap has an enormous cult following, and I absolutely saw the light. It has a wonderfully luxurious lather, has amazing oils for skin, and prevents innumerable pounds of animal fat from going to waste. It has had a growing resurgence in the natural beauty realm, along with tallow balm.
Keeping in line with using tallow as a sustainable ingredient, these bars will only now (as of Summer '24 batches) ever be made with locally sourced tallow from a bone broth small business (meaning I use their waste!) who sources their bones from a local dairy.
These ultra luxe soaps are on par with historical significance as true castille soaps (100% only olive oil soap, that fancy French soap)- these are the working class soaps, whereas castille soap was still heavily cost prohibitive.
History time!
Back when vegetable and fruit oils were simply unattainable for everyday use for either sourcing or financial reasons, tallow soaps were made to solve both of those problems. Tallow soap was made to make one of the most practical and economical products ever created in my mind. Why, you may ask? No refrigeration, heavy raw materials, and a need for soap. Tallow was harvested and processed in a part of town which we would call "industrially zoned" today, where the butcher and tannery were located. Neither one of those craftsmen had any use for the amount of animal fat they produced, so their byproduct became another craftsmen's primary ingredient - soap. The animal fat had to be rendered and turned into soap as soon as passible to avoid becoming rancid. For practicality and convenience, these three were found in the same areas of town, frequently actually neighbors.
To keep these soaps as true to form as possible, they are unscented and have no colorant added.

As always, every bar of our handmade soaps receives individual attention from design to creation to packaging. We hope you can feel the difference, and of course the love we put in.
To help your soaps last longer, keep them in a dry and ventilated area between uses. This isn't a general warning - it really does help!
All soaps from All The Way Handmade are small batch produced and made with saponified oils, fragrance oils, essential oils, skin safe micas, skin safe pigments, and other luxury ingredients. This means it uses all natural ingredients and the traditional way of making soap from scratch.
